INFORMATION FOR VETS

All CSA Practitioners work with Veterinary Consent and won’t treat a dog without it, acknowledging the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 and Exemption order 1962 , treating an animal as a Physical Therapist. We make sure this process is as easy as possible for the owner and the vet by providing a consent form, only asking the Veterinary Surgeon to acknowledge the request with 'Permission to treat' and note whether the dog is physically suitable to receive a physical therapy.

This consent form comes with a covering letter to briefly explain what Canine Shiatsu is and how we work with a dog during the session.

CSA Practitioners will treat a dog as necessary but if the dog has not responded in the way that satisfies the CSA Practitioner in the first few sessions the practitioner will refer the owner back to the vet. However, if the CSA Practitioner discusses with the client the complexity of their dog's case and either explains about maintenance for health or that rehabiliation is long term (for example - allergy based symptoms or physical rehab), with the clients understanding and agreement the treatments can continue.

Shiatsu is a non intrusive therapy using gentle stretches and finger touch, it can be integrated into a dog's health and lifestyle alongside traditional veterinary medicine and other complementary therapies. If you are interested in knowing further information please contact the CSA.
